Hi folks
Time has once again got away on me, and this email update of happenings at AIE is well overdue. Now that holidays are a distant memory, I hope you are making the best of settling down into normality.
We at AIE are continuing to aim to provide the very best heavy engineering mechanical engineering services that we can, and look forward to the exciting year ahead.
This update includes links to new case studies on our web site which will give you more of an idea of the range of skills we have. I hope you find these interesting.
The most significant change for AIE since our last update is our new ownership. Our founder, Paul Raethel, has sold the business to a group of people who are passionate about engineering. They have already given us access to a wider range of skills and expertise, which will enable us to further extend the engineering services we are able to offer.
Paul is still very much involved in the business, concentrating on developing our activities in Australia, managing the delivery and installation of our new machining centre, and giving the team technical advice.
The new Okuma double column machining centre, with a 6 x 3 metre table, and 2m under the tool, will be a great asset to us all. We are currently finalising plans for the building extension that will house it. Delivery is expected towards the end of September, which is not far away now! Our growing number of CNC machines has meant we have a new position to lead our CNC group, see below for more details.
Thanks for taking time to read this update, and for your continued support of Allied Industrial Engineering. On behalf of the AIE team I wish you all the best for a successful 2008.

Mark Lovegrove - General Manager
Opportunity for talented person to join the AIE team
The near arrival of our 3 x 6metre table Okuma Double Column Machining Centre, has meant we have created a new position of CNC Machining Supervisor. This person will lead our team of skilled CNC machinists and be responsible for the installation and commissioning of the new machining centre when it arrives. The person we are looking for will ideally have come from a CNC production machining background, with sound CAD/CAM systems experience, and a high level of CNC technical problem solving ability. Sawmill hopper door design, manufacture, and installation
Measuring and taking drawings of the door mechanisms while they were operating was a challenge for the design team. At 10 metres long and with a 5 metre opening, they were quite large, which meant collaboration between our design staff and the maintenance staff at the saw mill was critical. Read more...

Mike Huitema re-joins the AIE team
Our increasing requests from customers to provide more technical engineering solutions has meant we have been able to entice Mike back to the AIE team. Mike joined us as a machinist a few years back, and later moved into Estimating. Mike left us when he had an opportunity to join an engineering maintenance team as reliability engineer. We did not have a position for him to use his NZCE training at the time.
Mike's main role now with AIE is to manage projects with key customers, and to develop/maintain relationships between AIE and those customers. Mike is a fitter/turner by trade with a NZCE Mechanical qualification. He has a strong background in the Pulp and Paper, Steel Making and Sawmilling along with various other heavy industries.
