Analysis with confidence

Vibration Analysis

Production is profit - and breakdowns are costs. Make your maintenance smarter by using the power of vibration analysis and routine condition monitoring. We can help you minimise downtime and maximise your uptime and profits by supporting your business with reliability solutions. ATS vibration analysis can find and track small faults in your plant before they become big problems, allowing you plenty of time to plan ahead for repair when it suits.

4 Channel Simultaneous Condition Monitoring

ATS’s 4 channel vibration analysis instruments can acquire vibration from four different inputs all at the same time. For example, a vibration analyst can measure in the horizontal and vertical planes at both ends on your machine which gives a better view of how the rotor is behaving. Understanding the rotor's dynamic behaviour allows us to pinpoint the nature of the problem. Is it due to static or dynamic imbalance? Misalignment? Looseness or rub? Resonance? Having the right answers saves time and money when it comes to repair.

The ATEX rated Vibration Analysis equipment is approved for use in areas where there is a potential risk of explosion i.e. hydrogen, natural gas, hydrocarbons, pentane environments. No Hot Work permit or continuous atmospheric monitoring required!

VCAT is an internationally recognised standard qualification for vibration analysis. Vibration Category 3 is considered as a Master Vibration Analyst level – someone who can diagnose the widest range of machinery fault conditions, verify and correct resonance problems and perform complex corrective works such as alignment and balancing.

ATS has the equipment, capability and experience to help you solve problems with your plant.

Triax Accelerometer

This is a vibration sensor that measures vibration in three orthogonal planes (Horizontal, Vertical, Axial) all at once. Using the Triaxial sensor and 4-channel vibration analysis equipment, ATScan harvest more vibration data in up to 30% less time than our competitors. Less time in the field means less exposure to any potential safety risk for technicians and more data means better analysis. ATS also has ATEX rated Triaxial sensors for condition monitoring use in Hazardous areas.

Balancing

AIE has dynamic balancing equipment in their workshop to cater for larger, heavier rotors up to 20 tonnes mass, or up to 12 meters long. The large capacity of their equipment allows for balancing of turbine rotors which are heavy and often complex in response due to their flexibility. Faster balancing speed capability means AIE can get closer to any critical speed that may exist in the rotor, which in turn leads to more accurate balancing. The balancing system also has a brake, so things can be slowed as required and have safer control during the balancing process.

If your rotor is out of balance and is difficult or time-consuming to remove for balancing in our workshop, then ATS can balance that rotor where it is using their portable 4-channel balancing equipment. It means your machine can get back up and running faster, reducing your downtime and saving on other costs such as craneage and freight. To ensure that the correct balance grade for your rotor is achieved the ISO Balance Quality standards are referenced based on its mass and duty. Every balance job is issued with report so you can verify that the balance quality of your rotor meets specification.

Laser Alignment of Rotating Shafts - to ISO Standards

One of the biggest causes of premature machine failure in service is misalignment between the Driver and Driven. ATS can align your rotating shaft axes to within excellent tolerances based on ISO recommended tolerances for the shaft speed of the Machine. ATS checks and resolves any soft foot that may be present during the alignment to eliminate any unnecessary distortion on the Machine when it is fastened to its support.

Precision Laser Geometric Measurement

ATS can also measure the geometry of your Machine using the latest Laser Geometric Precision Alignment System. This service is useful in any industry where geometry and alignment are critical. Most measurements and analysis can be carried out without any downtime.

This highly specialised equipment can measures geometric conditions of your Machine such as flatness, straightness, squareness, parallelism, concentricity, plumb, distortion and flex to very high degrees of accuracy (+/- .001mm per meter, over 40 meters range and 360 degrees rotation). The equipment has a filter function that allows for heat dissipation and machine vibration during measurement - which means in most cases plant can be worked on while still running and measurement accuracy can be maintained.

Non-Destructive Testing – for detecting cracks or defects in materials

  • Magnetic Particle Indication

  • Allied Technical Services’ MPI equipment uses a magnetic flux to detect defects in carbon steel.

  • Dye Penetrant

Dye penetrant is a technique used for detecting defects in polymers, plastics, stainless steels, or titanium.

  • Ultrasonic Inspection

This uses a specialised ultrasonic scanner to check for any sub-surface cracks or defects. The equipment emits a sound wave through the material and the subsequent reflected wave can be measured to give a location and dimension of any defects that may be present. Ultrasonic testing can be done onsite during outages, or on equipment that comes into the workshop.

  • XRF Material Analysis

X-Ray Radiant Fluorescence is used to identify the make-up of a material. It provides detail regarding the constituent percentage of all minerals determined at the test site, which is useful to identify what the material actually is. It can also determine if contaminants from processes are present - allowing the source of the contaminants to be identified. This test can also be applied to weld failures.

Through Allied Technical Services, AIE has these NDT services available in-house.
Where statutory requirements require an independent party to test work, AIE can also arrange for third party inspection.

  • Turbine diaphragm repairs and rotor blading replacement

ATS engages in power generation repair and refurbishment. AIE can repair or rebuild your turbine rotor blading and diaphragms.

  • Heat treatment services

ATS has in-house heat treatment equipment that is used for a range of actions - such as relaxing stresses in materials pre and post fabrication or hardening/treating material post machining.

  • Technical procedure and maintenance plan writing

ATS can assist clients to get their procedural documents in order - from updating of drawings to maintenance procedures and safe working documents.

  • Root Cause Analysis Studies

Root cause analysis is about investigating possible causes that may lead to an issue or failure. ATS has a range of monitoring equipment available to be used during root cause analysis.

Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure

ATS and AIE both have a long history of maintaining their client’s confidence by ensuring that any confidential information remains so. This includes requirements regarding non-disclosure and protection of patents. We have robust systems to ensure that your commercially sensitive information remains secure.
