New Doors for Shaver Hopper
Measuring and taking drawings of the door mechanisms while they were operating was a challenge for the design team. At 10 metres long and with a 5 metre opening, they were quite large, which meant collaboration between our design staff and the maintenance staff at the saw mill was critical.
While the doors were physically big, they also needed to be relatively light, as they hung off the bottom of the hopper bin, which was 6-10 metres off the ground.
Down time is money lost, so timing and co-operation were the key elements to this project, with installation completed during a two week shutdown period over Christmas.
The old doors were cut off, the existing bin modified and the new doors fitted.
It was a job well done, with sound engineering solutions, completed under difficult conditions.
