AIE Apprenticeships

We see the training and development of young people as a key part of our business strategy. We currently have six staff in an apprenticeship scheme, including one adult apprentice.

We are very selective in taking on new apprentices as having the very best staff is one of the keys to our success in providing the best service to our customers.

Acceptance into an AIE apprenticeship scheme will be based on a combination of:

  • Good hands on ability and interest in mechanical hobbies – cars, motorbikes, etc

  • Good academic abilities, including Maths and English

  • Good pass marks in our Mechanical Aptitude and Maths tests

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Passion for heavy mechanical engineering

To help both AIE and a potential apprentice decide if heading down an apprentice path is the right thing to do for both parites, we will take top candidates on for a few months in a trades assistant/cleaner role. If they then look suited, we will offer them an apprenticeship through Apprentice Training New Zealand. Contact AIE for more details.

AIE program

Here at AIE we can offer apprenticeships based on the work we do in both our machining and fabrication workshops, we also work with other companies in Kawerau and Whakatane to help our apprentices gain all the skills they need to become a competent valuable tradesman. We work with Apprentice Training New Zealand (ATNZ) so our apprentices gain an internationally recognised qualification they can take anywhere in the world. ATNZ provides the framework for the term of the Apprenticeship and keeps in regular contact with the apprentice ensuring all coursework is kept up to date and the apprentice remains on track to finish on time.
